program let you use voice communications with mutliple people at the same time, they
say it has good sound quality even at 28k. We haven't tested this one yet (but we
will soon). It it does what it says it could become a valuable tool for a lot of
people. This program is Free during the BETA
period, after that we will have to wait and see.
MSN
MESSENGER SERVICE
07/22/99 Well Microsoft finally decided to get into the Instant Friend
Online business. Their MSN MESSENGER allows you to know if your friends are surfing
the web, you can send messages back and forth, chat (text based) and a few other thing's
like playing online games and linking to Netmeeting. The CATCH ?? Well you
have to have a Hotmail account (no biggy) and that's it. I set this up and it works
great, it also works thru a firewall which is a plus. Check it out. Very small
download (less than 400k). P.S. It also
interacts with those people on AOL Instant Messenger.
AOL INSTANT MESSENGER
07/22/99 Well this is
AOL's answer to ICQ. Actually it works quite well, the only problem seems to be
finding a screen name that isn't already taken. If your and AOL user or just want
another (alternative) buddy list program Check it out.
GOOEY

in a name, well I guess we are about to find out. This is a new communications
program that lets you chat and surf the web at the same time "Innovative" (???)
we don't know yet but it's received good reviews from several sources. We have
downloaded this program and are in the process of testing it, we will keep you informed.
ICQ

course, this is probably the biggest communications program on the net. If you like
ICQ (and there aren't many who don't) you probably would like this little addon that
allows you to control the look and feel of ICQ, it's called ICQPlus you can also download pre-made custom skins at Skinz.Org
PowWow

little communications program that lets you have voice chat with another person or
it their are more than 2 you can chat via text with up to 9 users.
Netmeeting
06/23/99 UPDATED This
program now up to Version 3 is very popular among developers and support people, not only
can you chat (voice with 2 people, text with more than 2) you can share applications
across the internet. The new version allows you to control your desktop from a
remote location.
