With the cost of long distance
calling being much more affordable and the average fax taking less than 2 minutes to send
these services offer a viable alternative for your faxing needs.
JFax
JFax offers A Free Fax number that forwards faxes to your existing Email account.
The phone numbers issued are random so may not be local to you. They are also
offering a Free Voice Mail Service that will forward Voice Messages to your existing Email
Account.
uReach
Well this one was hard to categorize, it's a web based email, fax, voice mail and they
give you a toll free number for your voice mail, faxes etc. It's a brand new service
and is in Beta right now 05/20/99. You are allowed 30 minutes of access to the toll
free number and I'm not sure if retrieving your messages counts against that time or not.
You can send and receive faxes through your browser.
Telebot
This service offers free faxing service "send and receive", seems to be strictly
web based , no where to patch a file in the fax. They also offer free email, toll
free voicemail and more. We have tried this service and everthing goes pretty
smoothly. Well worth the 5 minuted or less to sign up for an account.
Fax4Free
This service will allow you to send faxes via web browser or attach an MS Word
Document. You can send to any fax recipient in the US for free. The only
limitation I can see is that you are limited to 100kb but that's quite a bit of text.
You have an address book on line and can send faxes to multiple recipients at the same
time.
eFax
This service issues you a private fax number (normally not local) where people can
send you faxes. You receive your faxes via your email program as an
attachment. It works very well.
CallWave
This service issues you a private fax number for personal use (normally not local)
where people can send you faxes. You receive your faxes via your email program as an
attachment.
